1.Why Restrictions Exist

Prohibited items lists exist for reasons of safety, legality, and international regulation. Carriers, customs authorities, and aviation security agencies all impose restrictions that we are legally required to enforce.

Attempting to ship prohibited goods may result in:

  • Seizure of the goods without refund
  • Fines issued to the sender and/or carrier
  • Suspension of your account
  • Criminal prosecution in severe cases

2.Absolutely Prohibited — All Routes

These items may never be shipped under any circumstances through OctaveLogistics.

  • Firearms, airguns, starter pistols, and all weapons — including components and magazines
  • Ammunition, gunpowder, and pyrotechnic devices
  • Explosives of any kind
  • Controlled drugs, narcotics, and precursor chemicals
  • Human remains, organs, or tissue (except via specialist medical courier under licence)
  • Counterfeit goods and pirated media
  • Child sexual abuse material
  • Stolen property
  • Radioactive materials (unless shipped under IATA Special Provisions by approved parties)
  • Live animals not covered by an Active Live Animal Logistics specialist carrier

3.Restricted Items — Special Rules Apply

Lithium Batteries

Standalone lithium-ion or lithium-metal batteries are subject to IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (PI 965/966/968). Equipment containing batteries (laptops, phones) may be shipped subject to carrier approval and quantity limits. Batteries must not be damaged or recalled.

Perfume / Cologne / Aerosols

Flammable liquids are limited to 1 litre total per shipment. Must be declared and packed per IATA PI 950. Completely prohibited on some air routes.

Alcohol

Subject to import licensing in the destination country. Duty and excise must be paid. Not all carriers accept alcohol on all routes.

Tobacco and E-Cigarettes

Heavily restricted — check destination country rules. Nicotine pouches and vape liquids are prohibited in several countries.

Medication & Pharmaceuticals

Prescription medication requires a doctor's letter and may be subject to quantity limits. Controlled substances (e.g., opioids) are typically prohibited unless shipped by a licensed pharmaceutical company.

Food & Perishables

Fresh, chilled, or frozen foods require temperature-controlled logistics. Many countries restrict or prohibit the import of meat, dairy, and plant products.

Seeds, Plants & Soil

Phytosanitary certificates are required. Many countries ban the import of soil entirely to prevent invasive species and disease.

Currency & Bearer Instruments

Cash, cheques, and negotiable instruments are generally not covered by carrier insurance and require customs declaration above £10,000 (UK) or equivalent.

4.What to Do If You Are Unsure

If you are unsure whether your item can be shipped, do the following before booking:

  1. Check the carrier's prohibited items list for the specific service you intend to use.
  2. Check the destination country's official customs authority website for import restrictions.
